Clutch - RIP was created by Martin Rutter
Having completed half the hillclimb series on the original standard clutch, I was always half expecting a massive clutch failure considering the massive abuse it gets, particularly from the starts. The original plan was to change the clutch and gear box after the first couple of events but this never happened due to other developments taking precedent. However, with exquisite timing, the clutch failed while trying to put the car on the workshop ramps to do suspension work for the next event on 9th August - much better than failing during an event! Counting back, the clutch has done 19 full race starts and none slower than 2.55 seconds to 64 ft. At least now I can put on the lightened flywheel while changing the clutch and have a choice of 3 gearboxes to choose from. The only down side is that fitting the new suspension gets delayed yet again.

Your clutch did pretty damn well by the sound of it!

I can recommend a
Helix
1.3 Uno Turbo clutch, good for at least 180hp and fits the bell housing. I tried various other makes but they all failed, the Helix is well worth the money. Only down side is it is a bit sharp when moving off

Hi Gordon, I assume you are using dowel pins by looking at your flywheel. I will definitely be using dowels on my new engine as there was evidence of damage to the bolts when taking the flywheel off.
I have used stronger springs in the cover plate but using a good quality but fairly standard clutch lining. The reason is that I don't have to worry about too much power until the new engine goes in so I can still have a clutch with a very predictable bite - my standing starts are faster than most of the 1.6L - 2.0L guys as it is so I don't want to do anything the jeopardise this little bit of an advantage.

Helix clutch plate is strong, but I was finding I got slip in 1st & 2nd gears using their conventional friction plate.
No such slip with Helix paddle friction plate using same Helix pressure plate. Clutch bite still OK for controlled starts.
