difficult second was created by David Moult
Just returned from a 860 mile trip from Cornwall to Suffolk and back and the car ran very well. However, second gear is now difficult to engage when the car is hot. Any ideas?

David, you may want to check the obvious first like the gearbox oil level. When was this last changed? I have always used Redline MT90 (it is expensive though). You can try readjusting the gearstick lollipop linkage underneath the car, also check the condition of this and the lower engine mount for wear. Also I would make sure the clutch is adjusted properly (you need to make sure there is around 1mm of freeplay between the clutch arm and cable linkage. If all of these are ok then what other symptoms have got? Do you have any crunching of gears?

Thank you. No crunching and fine when cool. Got the Redline today. Who knows when the oil was last changed, tomorrow it will be. I find that you meet only the best sorts when out in the car.
