Hi, just re-joined the club after a couple of years break after Andy, Neil Mike and co invited me to park on the club stand at the Prestatyn show.
I've owned my 1988 GF for 3 years now. Recent work includes the headlight relay mod (she failed the MOT on dim headlights!) the "brown wire" mod (not sure if that made any difference), carbon-fibre wrapped the roof, replaced the drivers door, had the seat middles re-trimmed (Pete Lenton in Cheadle - great!) and changed the rear strut top mounts which has made a huge difference to the rear end knocks and rattles.
And then I saw another Blue GF advertised very cheaply on Gumtree - non-MOT'd runner. bought it unseen and used Anyvan.com to get it delivered (good service - very cheap) from Hampshire to Cheshire. Luckily I have access to a lock up, where she's currently residing. She's fairly bad - sills gone, windscreen surround, rear wing holed and both doors knackered. I'm going to start stripping her down soon, to see how bad she really is then decide what to do. I will try to restore if at all viable - it would be a real shame to lose another. Good bits are the interior and the mechanicals and the front end has been rebuilt in the past with a new nose cone.
Am off with the GF to the Manchester Airport classic show next weekend - not been before but told its good with tours of some static planes including Concorde offered. I got one of the last tickets but will say if its any good for future reference.
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave
Was the blue GF on Gumtree in Sopley/Christchurch? I was tempted by it...

Hi Julian,
Yes, it came from Christchurch - probably the same one!!
Had some spare time today and decent weather so had a good look around her. I've attached some photos below. I think the biggest area of concern is the rust / holes around the n/s suspension control arm mounting (photo) - not sure how easily sortable that is....She will also need front and back repair panels for the rear wings and some serious work on the screen surround. I have 2 good replacement doors.
On the positive side, front end and bonnet are good, rear turrets are solid and floor seems solid from below, though I have not taken the carpets out yet.
Plenty of food for thought.....
Cheers

Yes I spotted that on gumtree and thought one X1/9 is enough for me at the moment. One day I might have a fleet.. but for the moment with a young family I'm lucky to have one X1/9...
I was thinking it was a good deal for the parts alone and it was very local to me but I resisted...
I guess if you start stripping it to restore and find its too far gone then you can sell/keep the spares. Keep us updated.

That suspension mounting needs some good work, but overall the car looks no worse than the GF I rescued a while back. Happy welding Dave!

Hi Dave,
Welcome back to the club!
Hopefully should see you around at some local shows during the summer as you're not a million miles from me.
Cheers
