Passed it's M.O.T. at last

Bought this back in February, it has been bit of a job getting it roadworthy with all the welding, rusted brake lines, blocked rad, etc etc etc. Bodywork not brilliant but presentable for this summer, going to give it a respray but not yet.

Looking OK in the first picture, but who's bright idea was it to fit a go-faster daft exhaust?

Cameron, it's looking good. I know it's been hard graft however now with an MOT and the weather hopefully getting better, you will now be able to enjoy the car!!!

I'm going to be the devils advocate here and agree with Charlie - these Ansa quad exhausts are daft. I speak from experience of having owned two of them (including 1 new old stock one bought at great expense). Both of them rusted through after a couple of years at the joins of the tips to the silencer - the metal is paper thin. They also vibrate badly and the tips are not very securely attached to the silencer as the bracket holding the tips to the silencer is very thin and secured by a few spot welds, a pair of tips even came off on the motorway on the last one I had fitted and the whole thing was quickly removed and binned after that. Finally the silencer sits very low and scraped going over speed bumps... But I wish you well though Cameron - I would just reinforce all the welds on it especially around the brackets and then to give it coat after coat of heat and rust proof paint......

I have to agree with Jim / Charlie on this one.

I had an Ansa exhaust on my first X1/9 and was forever welding it up and as Jim said it was paper thin. I ended up replacing pipes where could. Whilst it did sound good, I eventually scrapped it and fitted a standard one.
I found that the performance was exactly the same and once the standard one had worn a bit sounded virtually the same.

However, the Ansa exhaust did look good and they are quite sought after now.

I would suggest using it until it fails and then replacing with something a bit more durable.

Congratulations on the MOT success as well!!

Andy

OK, here we go again!!

1) Well done Cameron for getting your car on the road and hopefully you can get full use out of it during the coming months.
2) Cameron has not been banned from the site or ever has been.

3)Comments were made regarding the Ansa exhaust regarding it's quality and durability and painful personal experience with said exhaust. Ok, Charlie could perhaps have worded his opinion better.
However, if you like it then that's fine. Each to their own.

4) Not sure why there is all this fuss?

Cameron, I keep trying to email you back in order to sort out your login but the yahoo email address you mailed me from no longer seems to work - I keep getting a bounceback saying that the email address doesn't exist. Can you email me with an alternative email address if possible and we'll try to get you sorted. Thanks.

Right i am now eventually back on. Been a bit frustrating with all that has gone on, a few points when i did that post Charlie Whyte made a slightly derogatory remark about the ansa, so i was going to reply to him with the similar response that i left on Facebook as to the reason for my decision on the exhaust but i could not go back on, the website would not recognise my account so naturally presumed that the post or my account was stopped because this has happened in previous posts in the past with other members when there has been issues with Mr Whyte, thinking this has happened to me to stop anything from escalating. I still find it an absolute mystery why my account went dead straight after the post because i have not not changed my password, email or anything. Also i never said i was banned, stopped was my word. I would like to thank everybody who stood in my corner while this was going on, it is very much appreciated. I am sorry for all the hassle it has caused on this website it was not my intention because i am just like the rest of you "X1/9 mad". Apologies.

I'm afraid you can't claim the blame for this episode Charlie.

It appears that Cameron's account got locked and needed the password resetting. Don't know why it happened, it's just one of those things.

No one on here has had their account removed.

Ok, can we carry on talking about Ansa exhausts please?

Incidentally I did find out that the two outer ports have restrictors in them. I found this out when one of them fell on the way to work one day!!
I took the restrictors out, but still didn't make much difference.

Brings back happy memories of my first X1/9.....sniff
