I have purchased this today and it needs suspension turret welding, is it an engine out job and how difficult?. This car i believe that this car is well known in past owner club circles, it came with an ansa quad exhaust, leather interior, koni dampers, jamex springs, electronic ignition, uno turbo brakes with grooved discs and a spare set of 1300 carrell front side/indicator lights.

Cameron, I still haven't decided what to do with my 1300. Sorry to keep you hanging on!

With regards to the rear turrets, I presume your talking about the sidewalls of the turrets? Not the tops? My first 1300 many years ago the nearside turret I managed to weld a plate in situ once the expansion bottle was removed. The offside was once again done with a plate however access is really tight. It really depends whereabouts the rust is on the turret to weld a plate. To do it properly really you would want to cut out the three skinned wall with a mini cutter/grinder and weld a patch in replacement the same thickness as the original wall to give it strength. Possibly again depending on where the rust is on the offside turret you may get away with undoing the exhaust & snail mounting bolt and drop the engine on that side to give a bit better clearance. Good luck and hope you've understood what I've said!

Hi Damon its ok about 1300 just let me know when you have decided. My turrets have gone on the sides and i was hoping i can do them in situ because taking the engine out i feel a decision has to be made for engine work while there.

I think you'll have to assess whether you can get a grinder or something in the space to clean the area to get good clean metal for welding first. Then see if a mig welding torch can be used in the same area. A patch repair placed over the existing corrosion is easiest. Beware when welding as the opposite sides in the wheel arches if underbody sealant is present can easily catch alight. Keep a bucket and a rag near you!

Hi, I have got the full service history when John owned the car and every receipt and job ever done to it is all written down, dated and costed. It really is comprehensive and he spent a small fortune on it. But since his ownership the car unfortunatly has not been meticulously pampered and it is showing because there is rust and could do with a respray. I will be respraying it but I am undecided, either gloss back and keep the bumpers with all the trimmings as is, or lido metallic black and put on my lido bumpers with all the chrome exterior trimmings. Because years ago I sold my lido and regretted it, but it does look quite cool as it is now.

Hi, I have noticed that this car has got an oil cooler on it, because I have not driven the car yet has anyone ever put one on and do they make any difference to performance?
