Hi,
I'm looking at buying an X1/9 and doing a full restoration before making the car more track orientated.
Can people give me their thoughts on these pics?
Is this the typical state I should expect for a car that needs a lot of TLC?
The rest of the car looks ok(ish) but needs a full strip down, paint and rebuild.
Mark

Welcome Mark,
I'm not a bodywork expert but that looks like some fairly major sill repair work, it won't be cheap. It also looks like the driver's footwell has been replaced already. Check also the the rear strut towers as they are triple skinned and rot from the inside. Can you give us some details and more photos of this car?
Cheers R

An X1/9 is a great choice of classic car but rusty sills might not be the worst problem. One area that can be terminal is the area behind the side air intakes/bottom of the roll over bar. The drain holes beneath the plastic moulding at the corners of the rear screen (one holds the fuel filler) block causing serious rot. If the rot is too bad it is more costs effective to buy a car a better condition as they are not expensive. Good luck
