New member and last uk x1/9? was created by mark groom
Hi everyone I thought I'd introduce myself and my car.I originally had a x 19 over 20 years ago but when we found
out a friend would be selling his after 6 years in his garage we decided to buy it.it needs quite a bit of work and has been at the garage approximately 6 months while they repair it bit by bit. It is a mica blue gran finale .The interesting thing seems to be the chassis number which ends 1 6 4 5 4 9. this seems to post date all information regards the last x 19 in the uk as the
chassis numbers end with 1 6 4 5 0 0 can anyone out there possibly shed any light on this.Xweb forums seem to think it is the last uk car but cannot shed any
light on the jump in chassis number?
thanks mark

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum. Do put some pictures of your car up when you get the chance. I'm afraid I can't help with the chassis numbers but I'm sure someone here will know.

hello Mark i can tell you that your x1/9 is not the last one built,i did a feature for the club magazine when i discovered the last right hand drive one built which was confirmed to the club by bertone themselves in 1999,the car is a mica red grand finale and is still owned by the guy who bought it in 1999 when it had done a mere 75 miles and was sold for around £13k now it has done 22k but been off the road for about 5 years

Hi thanks. If I contact bertone do you think they could verify how far mine is from the end of production?

I dont know if they have still kept their records and the uk owners club were the ones who contacted them not me so i am not sure they reply to personal enquiries, the club and bertone enjoyed a great friendship back then,i am sure 166000 or more were built

what we have to remember is that bertone didnt fit the grand finale spoilers they were fitted by fiat dealers who on many occasions fitted them round the wrong way,so not all the last built are fully fledged grande finale's,enjoy the x1/9 its a great fun car and welcome to a great club

As I understood it the chassis numbers starting 16600 etc were cars that did not sell were removed and were "doctored" to be sold as a later year? Is this not true?

chassis numbers upto 16600 would have been early cars and were 1300s not 1500s but i have seen a vs which sold from 1983 to 1985 on a G reg

This copied from xwebs forum...Where things still seem be interesting is serial #s AFTER 164500.
I did find reference to 164549 as being a Gran Finale, but aside from that NO other indications until 166001 - 166043
These last 43 or so are the all edged doctored ones.

as you may know forums can give the wrong info the only people who actually know are bertone, some rumours even said it was closer to 170,000 cars sold but again its pure speculation, the one i featured was actually confirmed by bertone as the last rhd x1/9 even this does not mean it was the last x1/9 produced there could have been 100s more built after it in left hand drive as the majority of x1/9s were sold in the usa with a mere 13000 being sold in the uk,i wouldnt worry about the chassis number too much and would enjoy the car
