I am no expert mechanic but you should always change the tenchner when you change the timing belt, it's the rules

Yep you must replace the tensioner every time the belt is done. The new belt will not have any 'give' and will put more strain on the old bearing and failure normally results pretty quickly. My old 924 let go of its tensioner in the outside lane of the M3 doing 85 ....knocked a very serious dent in the bonnet and gave me heart failure coasting to the inside lane!!

1987 Rosso Red .... named Scarlett!
