Made a snap decision this morning to go and attend their breakfast meeting and was really glad I did. It's only 30 minutes away from where I currently live and the road up is superb. Roof off and sun shining!

Was a surprisingly busy event and I walked up the track to the top of the hill - who knows, it might benefit me if I come to do it in the X one day.

A very good event and one well worth doing in our club. Five or so of our regional x19 group will do the next one. Anyone interested?

I won't be at the breakfast meeting but I am expecting to get an entry for the hill climb on the 5th May. If you haven't been it's well worth the effort, an amazing variety of machinery and you can get so close to the action. Even better if you are driving and it would better still if it was against another X19.

Are you doing the hill climb in your turbo Jonathan? Unfortunately being in the motortrade I now have 4 Sundays to work, although I have the 4th May booked off for Brooklands and I'm hoping to stick mine up the hill down there. I'll definitely be doing the Shelsley Breakfast meet on the 12th with a few exxies.

That's the plan, first event on the 4th & 5th May at Shelsley. The car has been back at RGS Motorsport to sort a few minor engine and suspension issues and we came away with a few more horses, now running at just short of .9 boost giving 148hp and 160ft/lb. They told me that the standard injectors are max'd out at that boost level but okay for the short runs involved in hill climbing. A new problem has occured, which in hindsite I should have seen coming, the clutch cannot handle the extra power and is slipping on aggressive starts. The car came with a box of bits and I may have refitted the standard X19 clutch instead of the Uno Turbo clutch, anyhow an uprated clutch would be a good idea for the future.

I'll see if I can get that Sunday off to come and see you in action. I too run a 1400 turbo with quite a few mods - turbo technics hybrid charger, pace charge cooler(water), Piper fast road cam, head work, balanced and uno turbo gearbox etc. I estimated about 180bhp but that might be a tad optimistic, it does feel bloody fast though. I use the standard injectors but I had them re-conditioned at delphi using ultrasound equipment. It would be nice to get a rolling road done. Mine runs at 1 bar and I don't get any clutch slip. I used the 1500 x19 flywheel and uno turbo 1300 clutch (early type).

I reckon you will put in some good times mate

I thought it odd that the standard Uno turbo clutch would slip so easily, even if after the latest rolling road session we are now up to .85 boost and 146hp - it's hilariously fast :woohoo: Anyhow, I found out the problem. Took out the gearbox this evening and saw that the pressure plate was not 100% flat, it's got a high spot running around the middle and so not transmitting all the available pressure. It was a brand new clutch (all three pieces) that came with the turbo engine box of bits, no makers name and so probably be a cheap 'bargain' part. As I needed a new clutch I've bought an uprated unit from a known manufacturer. Just got to get the gearbox back on the engine, I'll bet that it doesn't go in as easily as it came out.

Are you still competing on Sunday Jonathan? I've got the day off work now and will bring along some fellow x19ers for support!

Yes, all ready to go. Looks like the forecast is good and it should be a mecca for petrol heads as there are 180 cars entered and nearly as many different makes and types. I found out what was the problem with the clutch. The new clutch cover plate that came with the car was faulty, the surface had a ridge running around the middle. Due to time and money constraints put the clutch in from when it was running the standard engine, as you say not problems as yet and so I'll leave it be. Hopefully see you there

I had a brilliant day and great to meet some club members. I managed to get below 40 secs which as it was my first time out was my goal for the weekend. There is lots more potential in the car and hopefully the driver. Some upgrades already planned before Snetterton in a couple of weeks and hopefully a chance for some proper testing. I'm back at Shelsley in September which would be a good measure of any progress.
