First proper inspection/service....

Tomorrow I am taking the car for a timing belt. I havent got a receipt for one so its money well spent in my view. I taxed her last weekend and I didn't stop smiling all day, I have missed X19 ownership!

The point of this post is, I have been out of the fold for a good few years, and I am as rusty as my old car on things to look out for when it comes to serviceable items to be aware of!
Is there anything I should ask him to inspect/change other than the obvious oil/plugs/filters etc? The car has been well looked after in the past. Although it hasnt had much use/money spent on it over the last couple of years, other than a standard service.

It is pinking on the second choke, will re-jetting the carb sort this? If so, what size jets are recommended? I dont really know much about carberation, so I may be talking out of my bottom with that suggestion... Or should I have them retard the timing? I remember my old car having this problem, along with another issue which resulted in a frenzied trip to a webber specialist for a carb rebuild on the morning before the Welsh national in 2006/7 ish??? :cheer:

In the true spirit of things, the lid will be off regardless of the weather tomorrow from Chesterfield to Loughbrough... Its close enough to summer for me! B)

Any advice, pointers, much appreciated in advance.

Pinking sounds like it just needs the dizzy backing off a little.

The basic service is a good idea and in addition to your list I would add new dizzy cap and maybe check your plug leads.

A must for me is to make sure your cooling system is operation and if its stood for a while it would probably benefit from undoing the hoses at the bottom of the coolant pipes and using a hose pipe to flush out the radiator and pipes, you will be surprised at how much crud will come out, i would also look at the thermostat as again if its not seen much action could be perished i use 50/50 coolant water mix, you shouldn't need to change the jets unless its got a K+N filter fitted.

Good luck
Mark

Thanks Mark, the coolant has been done, it was running quite cool, so I hoping that when I get her back, this will have fixed (a hose has been replaced as it was quite badly perished.

The Fiat Coupe specialist that I am using has fallen in love with the car by the sounds of it :cheer: The car has got a K+N fitted and he has asked me to ask what jets are recommended before he sets too on sorting the pinking out.

John,
There is a set of recommended bigger jets to use for a bit more performance and also when using a K&N filter.

Give Claire at Eurosport a ring I am sure she will know what sizes to go for.

Also I put octane booster and a lead substitute in my petrol for good measure.

Regards,

Terry.

Yea, I run 115 and 135 with a K&N in the standard air box was setup on a rolling road session, but maybe a 120 and 135 with an open K&N or similar filter.
good luck

Rob
