Hi Guys, just thought I'd put this one out to you, before I start pulling stuff apart. O/S headlamp won't come up on the motor (it will wind up) but it does go back down. Any thoughts on the likely cause?

Hi sounds like the diodes - have a search on here in faults and fixes section - theres lots about it including IIRC which Maplins components do the job.
Right, can someone just tell me what's meant to happen here, just so I can sort theses lights. Not having seen another to compare, when I put the side lights on the headlamps lift (well one does obviously) but don't light, is that correct?
I would have thought they only lifted on headlight, not sidelight!

Not sure on all models but on both my cars the headlamps rise on sidelights and you get what is referred to as dim dipped headlamps ( a very dull glow) and normal sidelights by the indicators. You can disable the dim dipped headlamps by removing a couple of fuses which stops the pathetic glow from the headlamps but they will still rise, perhaps a previous owner has done this to your car. As to the problem of you headlamp not rising it sounds like the diode on the opposite side has failed as Andrew suggested.
Diodes on the back of the motors, also be aware that one motor supplies the other so if the drivers side wont rise its probably the passenger side diode.
It was just a dodgy connection in the end. Bit of lack of use I rekon' more than anything. I fiddled with the plug connectors behind the headlamp & it tried to raise & little, then as I wiggled them a bit it went up, notchy at first.
Then I turned the lights on & off a few times & it started to go up smoother each time, until it eventually sorted itself out.
I've given them all a clean & spray of wd40 & it's like a new 'en.
If you're playing with the connectors to the lights be careful where you leave the wires - the lamp housing can pinch the wires on the way down and then jam solid. If you're lucky it is just a case of working it loose, if not it will chew the wires up good and proper...
Hummm ! I would like to know that one too, as it seems obserd that they come up with the side lights, and as I have read on the forum somewhere that they are supposed to glow in side light mode, mine certanly don't do that
Is there also an art to getting them to come up both at the same time as the N/S one on mine is a few seconds slower to raise ?
