I replaced my front bonnet cable last weekend. I left the outer cable in place and pulled the inner cable out and threaded the new one in.
You need to take the black plastic grille off on the drivers side to make access easier (don't forget the screw holding it underneath).
Then just fiddle with it to get the correct adjustment so that it locks properly.
Still got the scars to show for it.....
Apparently it's an MOT failure if you can't lock the front bonnet, hence the rush in getting it done :blush:

Never knew it was an MOT failure, Blanche never had a working cable, the weight of the bonnet seemed to sort it, happily Rosie has all that kinda mularky sorted

I used a bicycle break cable from Halfords and an electrical terminal to adjust length
Works well was easy to fit as it fitted into outer sheath easily.
