Introducing myself, and x1/9 wanted! was created by Edward hall
Hello all,
Thought I'd introduce myself as I've just joined the forum having suddenly decided that I need an X1/9 in my life. I'd never really thought about owning one before but it came to me last week in a flash of inspiration. Now I'm desperate for one. Given that my last classic was a 1969 Chrysler 300, all 7.2 litres of it, an X1/9 is something of a change, but I like the idea of a light, fun, economical sports car that's a bit different.
Anyway, I ideally want to spend £1-2k. I don't want a car with serious problems although I accept that it's unlikely to be perfect. I much prefer the early 80s models, particularly the VS, to the later, final editions as the interior appeals to me more. Anyone have anything for sale? I've been to look at a couple but they have not been right.
Any advice or pointers welcome. If you have a suitable car for sale, even better!
Cheers, Ed

Welcome to the forum!
An X1/9 is a great choice!
The car in my signature may just be coming up for sale to the right buyer. I've sent you a PM

Hello Ed,
www.carandclassic.co.uk/ is always a good place to look for a car. I bought my first car from there. They have a few for sale today including my modified VS.

Welcome Ed
A chap called Dennis has a nice early blue 1500 on ebay for sale and it is well within your budget.
Dennis breaks X1/9s so has all the spares you could need.

Hi Ed.
A very warm welcome to the forum ! :woohoo:
I too prefer the earlyer X1/9, I have an 83 Vs purchased not long ago, had a GF in my late teens and swore I would have another, so 27 yrs later took the plunge.
Great cars, and love evey minute driving it!
Mine is now cuddled up in a heated garage, and will undergo some light work over the winter period.
The guys on here are soooo helpfull and realy are a good bunch and will with no doubt find or guide you in the right direction.
Good luck with the hunt.
My signature picture is my car at present.
Regards
Nigel

Hi all,
Many thanks for everyone's comments and for the great response I received in my appeal for a decent X1/9. Well today I picked up this car from Kevin Bailey on here. It's a 1500 but with the early bumpers fitted, which is pretty much exactly what I was after. Hugely enjoyed the 2hr drive home and looking forward to jumping in it tomorrow morning!

That's a lovely car, I once remember working on it, although I can't remember which job it was. Nick Troth did the bumper conversion. I always remember what a straight car it was.
If you are ever down this way, pop in for a cuppa. I live 30 minutes from Kev.
