Personally I find these a little over powering and intrusive in the current configuration.

In particular the one on the forum page which acts like an annoying popup as it resizes itself when it loads.

Is there a way to integrate posts on the forum into facebook comments and visa versa to increase activity on the forum?

Hi Ian, we're just trying a few things out, but it's early days and I'm sure there's more we can do to better integrate with Facebook. I agree the resizing is a bit intrusive. I'll go back to the company that I got the widget from to see if there is anything that can be done.

I'm not sure whether facebook and the forum can be integrated more. I had a look for widgets but was struggling to make sense of many. If you want to look for yourself, go to extensions.joomla.org/ and have a browse around to see if there is anything else you can see that might be suitable?

Anyone else got any thoughts? What would people like to see?

Yes, I've just noticed that the Facebook thing refreshes and resizes every time you view a topic so I'll look to move it elsewhere as the current setup will put extra load on the web server.

The only other Facebook integration I've seen allows you to put Facebook 'like' buttons on the site. The forum software we use is called Kunena and I haven't found anything that allows you integrate it with Facebook in the way you suggest. We'll keep exploring for things though...

Your link provides lots of interesting options although like you say many aren't overly clear in the functionality they actually provide. Like buttons being the most prevalent by far, and most of the integration includes increasing your website profile on facebook through likes, or providing facebook feeds as has already been done.

I suppose the amount of integration or functionality required depends on what other members of the club / forum or facebook desire.
