Ballast resistor and points

Hi. Annoyingly my Haynes manual is in the car and its quite a walk away. Does anyone know where the ballast resistor is, and am I right in thinking the points are in the distributor somewhere? The only car I have ever had to set points on is a 2CV, and they do away with distributors and use a wasted spark system.

Does the X19 even have a ballast resistor? I thought the way it worked was that when the engine is running, the low tension side goes through the ballast to let the coil run at around 7V or so, and when the starter is engaged, it is bypassed, picking up the much lower than 12V available from the battery during charging. Or does the ballast resistor just part of the circuit all of the time, reducing the voltage more when 12V is supplied, but less when the car is starting.

Thanks,

Adam

Points are om the distributor. Most og the x's, if not all, have from original a ballast resistor mounted on the engine lid hinge or near coil pack
