Castle Coombe - Teenagers get to grips with X19 was created by Martin Rutter
My teenage daughter is members of the Under 17 car club and Sunday 15 July was their "Magic Day" where they get to drive and be driven on the Castle Coombe circuit in 50+ cars ranging from Ferraris, Nobles, Astons to pre-war MGs and Jags.
Having just got my recently acquired GF on the road, I decided to let them use it for the day. I must say, it looked splendid and drew a great deal of interest through out the day - people couldn't quite belive the fantastic condition it is in (no welding, no re-spray but it has only done just over 20K miles).
I drove the younger members (under 14) on the circuit racking up at least 40 laps and I had 7 teenagers aged 14 to 16 drive the car on the circuit. All of them drove it well but must admit 1 yoiung lady stood out with superb car control and mechanical symaphy. All the youngsters were quite amazed at the performance and handling of the X19 and for most, it was the first time they had come across such a car.
It was my first time on the track in an X19 and it was a joy, especialy in the twisty stuff. No match on the straights for the Astons or Nobles though!!!
The U17 car club is a fantastic organisation to properly educate youngsters on safe driving in all aspects. Check out their site if you have youngsters - no minimum age but obviously need to be able to reach all car controls safely.
Finally, their "Magic Day" raised about £5500 for the Teenage Cancer charity.

Excellent report Martin thanks for sharing with us, is this an annual event? I'd consider supporting it next year if more cars were required. A great cause and potential future owners / club members.

Sounds ace, my 14 year old would love to be a member, just such a pity it's not really feasible from Yorkshire

Thanks for the positive comments. The Under 17 club run this event each year so I will let people know about next year's event closer to the time and hopefully get something about this year's event in our magazine.
