Thanks Ian for your advice, great to meet up with you at Bodiam.
Member like Ian make being a member of x1/9 club a pleasure and very good value as the advise he gave me over the phone enabled me to identify fault, he even was willing to bring a fuse box over to my house and help me sort problem.
The fault was the connecting terminal part of the fuse box the main lead from the battery which goes to the starter motor and then returns to fuse box the terminal had become lose and overheated melting the plastic and was not making any connection.
Must rember to switch off battery at end of use could have caused fire.

Glad you got it fixed Michael, good to see you at Bodiam, I wasn't going to go until I spoke to you this morning but glad I did. The car enjoyed the leg stretch home along the A21.

Thanks for the photo Richard, I was thinking on my way out that we didn't get any snaps. It was nice that the weather held out too.

The red car is mine. It's was first registered Feb 89, and has the GF wing, but no GF badges. Was restored about 10+ years ago - I have bills etc passed down from previous owners. I bought it last October.

Back in the early 80's myself and my then girlfriend (now wife) attended many of the club meetings in the midlands. Our membership lapsed after a couple of years, but I've always thought about getting one again. After searching for about 8 months, last year, I spotted this red one on a classic car website. Popped over to Wales and on the way home got as far as Chippenham before the ignition coil failed. Since then I've replaced the ignition, fixed the brakes and even had my eldest son learn to drive in it. It's running fine now, but still has an annoying oil leak from the sump gasket.

I'll try to attend as many meets and shows in the south east as I can, but a bit worried about taking it on too long a journey - still have memories of braking down on the M4 and riding home in the cab of an AA truck.

Mine is the Gold one, complete with sunroof.

Might be a bit late for the Uckfield meeting or are you just testing us with a deliberate wrong date?

What a total pillock !!

Yep well spotted, the date for the Uckfield meet is 15/07/at Bentley wildfoul and motor musium, Nice and local for me !!.

Very nice car Ian, was that a standard colour ? not seen one before in that colour. The sunroof sound a nice idea, was that an aditiion you added?

Richard, agian looks very smart hats off to you both !, who'is the blue one ?

Mine also came from Carmarthenshire, in deepest wales, it seems that there are quite a few in that part of the world.

I agreed to the seller of mine to meet me 1/2 way at Membury services on the M4, and not having driven one since I was 19 or so, I didn't know quiet what to expect!, but took the bull by the horns jumped on the M4 - M25 - M23 - A22 non stop :pinch: , so the first 1 1/2 hours was spent at a steady 70, or there abouts but she made it back to Eastbourne without any real issues except a slight missfire which turned out to be a knackered plug !

Mine is the blue one .1988 one previos owner and almost all original paintwork with very little rust, except seats which were cloth but falling apart, managed to get set of black leather and door panels off eBay. Engine blow up on motor way last year when driven fast by my Son, on taking it apart found it was not his fault as 4 of the water ways round pistons 2&3 were blocked with hard scale and pistons had started to melt.
Replaced engine supplied by club member, proved to be in good condition.
Hope to meet up with other members at venues in the south east.
Mike
