Carb Cooler was created by Nigel Dale
Evening all.

Having recently purchased an Exxy, i have removed the K&N air filter and replaced it with a standard air box, (as I want the car to be orginal as possible), now, the carb coolin fan has been diconnected, i have foud the wires hanging in the engine bay, after reconnecting the wires the fan runs continuously even after removing the key!

it states in the "Haynes Manual" that it comes on via a sensor connected to the carb, can anyone tell me where it is supposed to connect to the carb ?

Also while i'm here  can any point me in the direction as to where the reversing light sensor is plugged into, as mine is just hanging in the engine bay, hence no reversing lights.

Thanks all

Nigel

There should be two wires going to the inlet manifold for the carb cooling fan.

The reverse switch is mounted on the front of the gearbox

Ahh ! Thank You, that what those are for  , well they are connected but whe I the wires that are hanging from the Fan, it continuously runs even with the key removed!.

Could it be a problematic relay ?

Thanks for your txt this morning 18 TS (havn't cought your name), but at the moments I have very slow wipers  otherwise I would come over, may have to leave it until the rain stops just in case they pack up, new motor brushes on order.

If it clears later i'll give you a ring.

Thanks Once agian

Nigel.

Pull one of the wires from the carb switch if it still runs then yes I would suspect the relay. The relay is in the spare wheel well on petrol tank wall.

I'd be surprised if it's the brushes on the wipers I'd expect it's low supply voltage, easy enough to check. Add some relays and a fresh fused supply from the battery.

My wipers work better in the rain with the reduced friction.

Speak to you later best regards, Ian

Nigel if you look down directly over where that photo is between the Carb and the bulkhead you'll see the two spade connectors that are on the reverse light switch on the end of the gearbox as Ian says.....

Hi Neil.

Thanks for that ! weather permitting i will put her out of the gagage and sus it out tomorrow, and keep you informed.

I have ordered a cam belt also to replace, having never really worked on these before, I guess its a pretty easy job to do ?

Following that up with a full engine service, hopefully them engine wise it will be tip top.

Can anyone advise the best place to purchase a new clutch cable?, as iv'e looked on fleabay, but unable to find one, or does anyone have on they would like to pass on for some of our Queens finiest pounds ?

Nigel - I've never been bold enough to set a cam belt myself but I believe its fairly straightforward (especially for a mid-engined car!) Would reccomend changing the tensioner at the same time if you do not know how old that is.

Nigel, what problems are you having with the clutch? The clutch system is hydraulic master and slave cylinders are both available.

If it's just for servicing then a fluid change wouldn't go a miss, some seem to have terrible trouble bleeding the system, but that's not something I've experienced on my fluid changes.

Neil, thanks for the advice, I will take a look at the site and hopefully find what i'm looking for.

Ian. hope you had a good meal ? alright for some, I had to cook mine

The clutch has to be pressed right to the floor to change, so a fluid change may well be in order,
It also has a slight crunch in 3rd & 4th, but take it gently and it changes no problem.

God ! this is never ending  .

I purchased a new lollipop linkage, as it has been mentioned that his can cause problematic gear change, BUT once under the car to my surprise!, fitted to mine is just a striaght bar with no rubber bit, is this normal on a 1983 VS? and the new one purchased is far too long.

Any ideas ?

Thanks agian for all your advice SO FAR !!

Mine's a 79 so it doesn't have a lollipop, not sure what the VS is meant to have, but if you want to use a lollipop you'll need to change the long bar from the gear leaver too.

Any advice on crunchy gear changes I would be interested in too. I was going to start my ensuring the linkage is spot on and then running a fully synthetic gearbox oil.
