New MOT Advisory Items

New MOT Certificate now has Advisory Items
My X1/9 passed MOT and examiner said it was in good condition, but the certificate now has a list of “Advisory Items”. My question is do these items have to be rectified before next MOT
1. Slight corrosion to boot floor
2. N/s/f lower panel corroded
3. Both front suspension arm bushes perished/split
4. Stone chip on windscreen
5. Both Front tyres perished (must have used magnifying glass)

This is of help to identify problems and for me to rectify, but is this mandatory.
I appreciate these "items do not consitute MOT failure items they are drawn to your attention for advice only"

Hi I was told that if the boots were split it is now a straight FAIL, I have just replaced all of mine, they are available in various sizes normally in packs of five.

A windscreen 'chip' will only fail if its in the drivers line of view. Usually that only applies anyway if its a crack........

Bushes and boots.... Fail
Tyres.... Fail
Rust on floor..... Maybe fail if you can see daylight through
That would be the case in a northern ireland mot centre which if anyone didn't know is a government agency and not a privately run garage. In ni they fail cars on a regular basis for silly little things just to get the extra 18 quid out of you. For example... On a trip to the Mot centre with my previous x1/9, I was failed for having a slight variation in brake pressure between rear driver side wheel to rear passenger side . I mean Wtf??!! I bet that doesn't happen at your average Charlie brown's or halfraud's auto centre?

I got an advisory that the rear brake pads were wearing thin, although as my garage said, the mileage I do they'll probably last me 3 years!
Having said that, standard pads are thinner on the rear as a matter of course ;)

hi , the advisory items on your mot are only to let you know about the items that have basically just passed , i have been a mot tester for 10 years , there are more failure items coming in this year , how large is the chip on the windscreen you are allowed up 10mm in zone a , which is the o/s wiper blade sweep and 40mm in zone b which is the n/s wiper blade sweep , i will look into the one about tyres , as for the bushes i will also check , i recently got my car mot done and was told that the n/s/r bottom ball joint dust cover was starting to split , as long as it is not letting any dirt into balljoint ( cant actually remember how it is worded ) it is only a pass and advise , you can get these dust covers on ebay , but think you need to measure sizes first and they are only a couple of quid each , easier to get than a rear balljoint !
