Just fitted an Ultraspark electronic conversion kit to my 1982, 1500cc X1/9. Can't believe the difference. It now almost beats the key and starts instantly hot or cold. Probably the best £50 I have spent in a long while. Anyone else tried this system?

The joys of electronic ignition. You reminded me of all those Monday mornings in the mid 80s when I went out to the car at 5:00 in the morning to go to work after it had sat outside over the weekend. Would it start or not? Would the neigbhours lynch me for cranking away at that time of day. Making the decision to remove the rotor cap, ignition leads and rotor and warm them up it in the oven for 10 mimutes. Going back out and hoping it would start and thinking of excuses to the boss for being late again on a Monday morning. Amazing that the car didn't end up being pushed into the canal

I have but ALDON and not on the X1/9, they're good systems nice to know you can get one for the x1/9 now, as ALDON / Accuspark don't list the x1/9's.

Thanks for posting

Hello John, this kit couldn't be easier to fit. Took literally 15 minutes from start to finish. Swap points for electronic unit, two screws to remove points, one screw to fit new unit. Fit new rotar arm which is supplied with kit. Change old coil for new one, also supplied with kit. Connect two wires from electronic unit, one negative side of coil, one positive side of coil and thats it. All for under £50.00.

Hi, just purchased an Ultra Spark electronic kit for my '87 x19. After watching video etc I was wondering where do I connect the low tension wire that was connected to the external condenser attached to the coil.

That wire is no longer required, the black wire from the ultraspark replaces it.

If it's the condenser fitted to the distributor then Ian is correct, it is redundant. If it's the radio interference suppression condenser fixed to the car (usually to one of the engine lid hinge studs) then that one can be kept. It must be connected to the + terminal on the coil.

Cheers R
