Electrical model year questions

Three questions on the electrical changes over the different model years.

1. What year did the fuse box in the 1500 change from the continental bullit fuses to the current blade type?

2. Once the blade type of fuse came in, were there any further electrical design changes before the end of production?

3. Were there any electrical design changes during the life of the 1300?

Thanks in advance for any answers

I have an 79 with the continental style fuse, and I broke an 85 which had a blade fuses and the GF style switches.

I believe that the 82 cars still had the continental fuse and early 1500 switches, also I understand that there was a period which used continental fuses and GF style switches, so I assume that some time between 83-85 that;

1: The switches changed to GF style, but still used the continental fuses
2: The fuse box then changed

Does that tie up with the wiring diagrams available?

Hi I have a B reg and a D reg. The B has bullet type fuses and electric cable drum windows. The D reg has blade type fuses and bosch type worm-drive electric windows. It also has a coil by the wiper mechanism which is something to do with a dim-dip system on the lights. Both have the square black push button switches. Years ago I had an A reg which was the same as the B above and a W reg which had rocker type switches.

Hope this helps

Thanks Guys. Your information was just what I was looking for. I need to find out what the coil is for as it is not shown in the Haynes manual.

Just had a look there's no coil by the wiper on my 79.

I understand that later models had a third position on the light switch which allowed the main headlights to be run dim. Does anyone have a schematic showing how it fits into the cicuit?

Thanks

Another difference is that B reg one has courtesey light switches built into the light units the D reg has a push button switch in the main switch cluster

Does anyone know when the door lights first turned up? My 1980 V reg hasn't got them

Thanks

Yes and when the door panel lights arrived, did the interior roll over bar light disappear ? Also, my 87 vs has no rear luggage light. Not sure if it was removed by the previous owner with battery draining issues or if the guy at the factory employed to fit them phoned in sick that morning!

I have the little coil thing down by the wiper mechanism . On earlier cars the 1st stage lights on only caused the headlights to pop up but not light. Light only came from the side lights . With the coil there are 2 levels of main beam brightness.

Not sure if this is a fault but when pulling the full beam to simply flash the headlights they don't pop up but they do light up my garage floor! I'm almost sure on older versions the lights lifted and flashed when the lever was pulled.

The Bertone drawings show no sign of a rear trunk light. Has any model got it?

As far as the headlight flash is concerned, lighting up the floor when using the flash with the pods down is what I would expect from the drawings for both the early and late model 1500s. Not too difficult to make the pods raise up on flash so maybe a PO mod.

Thanks for the continuing input

None of mine have had lights in the front or back luggage spaces - I have only ever seen lights on the roll hoop on 1300s.

Agreed Andrew - never seen OE Boot interior lights. I'm pretty sure the door courtesy lights came in with the VS models circa late '82/83.

Hi Guys

Just a quick note to say thanks for the input. If you look in the technical information section you will find three electrical schematic documents. These documents have been drawn from scratch. They are not copies of original Fiat, Bertone or Haynes documents, although they were checked against those documents for accuracy. The idea was to produce schematics in an industrial style to make any individual circuit easier to understand and diagnose. It is advisable to use them in conjunction with the official sources as those are better for the routing and connection points of cables. They have only been done in 2012 so are still raw and likely to contain a few mistakes. Should anyone find an error please post details in faults and fixes and the schematics will be corrected and re-issued. In that way the documents should become more accurate as time passes. Any suggestions for improvements, better descriptions or extra information will be very welcome.

Steve, thanks for putting in the time and effort to produce these schematics, I'm sure they will come in handy.

Steve,

I have just stripped out my wiring loom for an update and a few MOD's getting out my spare looms I found that I have and early 1500 loom fitted in my car, a later continental style loom with early style switches and two late style looms one with the dim headlight on sidelights and one without.

If you want me to confirm any parts of your schematics please let me know.
