I have/had my insurance with Lancaster. I sold my red x around oct last year. I left the insurance to expire ignoring the reminders, no problem. Except my GF is also insured with Lancaster. It appears that when you let one insurance expire they dont send you a reminder for the other. Today I got a letter from MID saying my car wasn't insured and I would be liable for a fine if this wasn't rectified immediatly. I pulled out my docs to find it ran out in November last year. I'm really pissed off about this as uninsured drivers is one of my pet hates. Lucky it was the winter and I don't use it, only take it round the block to keep the brakes free or the very odd trip. On a brighter note I was only £103 for the year :)

How annoying! The MID is useless all it does it winds up law abiding motorists who may have an uninsured car tucked up in a garage doing no harm to anybody, yet those it is supposed to target still get away as the are off the radar anyway cos they use cloned or foreign plates etc... At least be thankful that they didn't automatically take payment after your ignored the reminders - some companies like Elephant actaully do this unless you SPECIFICALLY contact them and ask them to terminate the policy for good - I found this out the hard way for myself once.

I'm with Lancaster too - I thought I had a good deal from them paying £105 for my green 1300! but clearly not.....

Hi Jim,
I've sent an email explaining my situation to Lancaster so will be interested in the reply. I stated to them that I knew it was my responsibility to ensure I was insured but also that I relyed on the reminder to help. It just really hacks me off that I've been on road illegal

Turns out that when Margo bought the Pug I transferred GCA1E (was on red x) to her car. The red one defulted to A299GGU. The insurance company made the change on the wrong policy meaning EXX1E wasn't insured from June last year  This also meant that the reminder came in under A299GGU. As I'd sold the car I just ignored the reminders.
