Hello everyone, as a new member since last april,I didn't have the pleasure to participate in our forums.I bought a 1982(?) Fiat X1/9 1500 almost a year ago.My childhood dream came true and feels great even though my age meets my car's.Can anyone help me identify the make year? The previous owner told me it's a 1982 model but I have serious doubts since it lacks some characteristics. The licence says 1984 but that can be explained probably through stock.Would the chassis number help? The original color was "yellow 271" but I can't find it in any color codes. If some pics can help let me know. Thanks everyone for your help and support.

Hello and welcome Geo! Yes the chassis number would definitely help in pinpointing the age of your car, plus do post some pictures up too...

1977 Serie speciale in green original spec

Hi Geok, and welcome to the club forum. :)

On some cars there is a sticker on the main fuse box tray, usually stuck on the tray under the fuse holders.
No promises, a sticker might be there........and it relates to the date of the loom manufacture, not the car....but atleast it should give you an idea.

Good luck if you are taking the loom off the tray, and check everything works when it goes back on!

cheers
joe

Hi GeoK,
My X1/9 was regestered in 1984. I believed that this was the age of my car until it failed the mot for trackrod ends. I bought new ones only to find they didn't fit my car. In 1982 they changed the rack and ends to be compatible with newer models (Fiat Panda). My car had the older rack i.e pre 82. I also have the old fusebox (non blade). Everything points to my car being pre 82, maybe it ws a demonstrator? Look at the vin No's in the survey. I found a car with a hassis no only a few away from mine. it was an 82.

That chassis No. looks very early to me, more like '79 '80.
I have a '83 scrapper
chassis No. 7148082
GeoK's No. 0000731
I assume at least the first 3 Nos. refer to modifications etc.
Is this the case??
I will try to get closer to the mark as time allows.

No sticker there, the car has the old fusebox! On the next days I'll post some clear pics that might help. Unfortunately this is my first X1/9 and there are not many around to compare. The car has the counter clockwise tachometer, is this a hint?

going down the back streets, up a few dark alleyways and a few u turns.....are we there yet?!

proving how difficult it is to idendify cars that could've been sitting on a dock, in a warehouse, had different parts fitted, dealership mods etc.

Happy new year, everyone. I hope this year is trouble-free for the club and for all owners. So, identifing your car can be very difficult, this is what I noticed. It's been a nightmare to sort parts out to see what year were they fitted and stuff and especially in my car that seems like a giant mod. My next thought is that it's a lousy 1500 conversion. The car has 1300's seatbelts, undentified seats, 1500 dashboard, even has a 1300 door opening handle on the right and a 1500 on the left. It's making me sick and worry, but still love it. I hope the pics can lead somewhere. If a pic of a specific part of the car can be of extra help, please tell me. For once more thank you all for your support.
