X1/9 Owner in need of some help!

Hi all,

Had this email today and felt really sorry for the bloke - what scum! He's given me permission to post it - can anyone locally to him give him some help?

Dear Rob,
I'm a lapsed X1/9 Owners Club member. Lapsed because, three-and-a-bit years ago I was diagnosed with epilepsy and had to surrender my driving licence, so I laid up my 1989 Gran Finale on a SORN come the day I was cleared to drive again. I've been back on the road since mid-2011, but had not yet revived the GF, which I intended to do this Spring. Yesterday I went round to the lockup in Spalding, Lincs. where it's lived these past 12 years or so (I hadn't been there since the end of summer, but needed some tools that I keep in the lockup) to discover that some scumbags had broken in and stolen not only the tools but a complete set of refurbished Ruote OZ alloys that I'd been keeping to fit when I got the car up and running again, the tyres for those, plus the OZs and Yokohama tyres that were on the car (they'd propped it up on piles of books that were in the lockup!), brake discs, a spare windscreen and Targa top, and the fitted cover that protected the car.
There's probably no point in telling you this, as I have no idea when the theft took place, could have been any time since September, and all the parts are probably long sold on, but just in case anyone gets offered stuff, caution might be advisable. the refurbished OZs were pretty distinctive having a highly polished rather than the usual duller alloy finish, and immaculate, and the cover was bright/mid-blue, and had a small tear where it met the left-hand windscreen pillar.
Alas, I fear my beloved GF (attached shows how it used to look!) is now fit only for the breaker's yard, and I have no idea how I'm going to get the wheel-less hulk, out of the lockup.
Regards to you and all at the Owner's Club.

Sadly there are thieving b*stards everywhere. Very sorry to hear this, wish I had some wheels to donate to the cause.

The name rings a bell from the old Forum many years ago - that is awful to hear. Perhaps he should try contacting the X1/9 Files as they are conveniently also located in the Spalding area, I am sure they could do him a good deal on some X1/9 alloys, or if all that is needed to get the car mobile then some Fiat Punto steelies or similar....
