Windscreen woes was created by GPW
A lory chucked up a load of gravel and peppered the front of my lovely Orange car.

Stonechips apart the windscreen cracked in 2 places on impact and was chiped in several others.

Phoned the insurance and was refered to a well known windscreen company. They turned up at the home address with new screen all seemed well untill they tried to fit the new one.

It seems that the only manufacturer that supplies windcreens to all the big companies is Triplex

The new glass was not curved enough to fit the frame and stood proud at the bottom corners. thinking that it was a faulty glass, another glass was ordered but still the same.

so at the moment I am waiting for the 3rd glass to arrive. If this is the same then I dont know what to do.

The insurance company is happy to pay for a new glass if I can find one.

What is supposed to be easy has turned into a night mare and the car is immobilised with no screen.

Any ideas??

Guy

Guy, what a shame! Too many nice exxies getting damaged at the mo.

I used a mate in the trade when BAD's windscreen was replaced during the restoration. It came from national mobile windscreens. The rubber bead that surrounds the frame on the inside was off a ford transit and cut to size - made a really nice job. The screen sits in fine to be honest. At the sides it sits a tiny bit further out than the original, but you can barely notice it.

Hope this helps,

All the best,

Rob

Must be a faulty batch - I have had two replaced in recent years by Auto Glass without any problems.

Hope they get you a good one

Following with interest - my 1300 has some scuttle tin-worm which I'm really hoping can be sorted with the screen in-situ especially as its the original screen. I know they are a tricky to remove.......

Would definitely suggest getting an expert to remove it, if that's what you end up having to do.

The saga continues.

well thats 4 new windscreens have been ordered arrived and tried. All have the same issue to a greater or lesser degree.

Have tried the new glass in both my Orange car and my stripped Lido to prove that its not the windscreen frame.

The issue seems to be that these glasses have been in stock for a long time and the glass has flattened out with age and storage.

The manufacturers wont make new untill they are out of stock, so im told, but auto windcreens now have proof x 4 that these screens are faulty

I have a old original fiat screen which was delaminating that fits all the cars perfectly and have donated that to be sent to Triplex so they can see the problem.

so the car is still of the road and missing some of the best weather i've seen for months.

On the up side Auto windscreens have been fantasic throughout.

Will keep you updated

Sorry to hear of your troubles Guy... :(

That is worrying if it is true the glass flattens out with age, if that is the case I hope that the rare new windscreen with blue top tint I've been hoarding for many years will still fit when the time comes to use it!

If the NOS screens have changed shape then would that not apply to the delaminated screen you have as well. I think it's the wrong screen. I heard previously that the 127 screen was the same as x1/9 but can't be sure!! Might be worth an investigation.

Grimy

My delaminated screen is out of the spares car I have just cut up so it has only recently been removed and has been sitting in the Lido shell since, so it fits the frame perfectly.

the glasses that have been supplied are the right size just not curved enough so they dont sit in the bottom corners and they all have lables stating they are x1/9 screens.
