Hi Chaps, firstly remember I am a new member, I read some of the regular magazines, Auto Italia, Retro Cars etc. My question is how do we get exposure in the publications. We have a lot of modified cars and a lot of stock original cars. Do we have to pay for this or do we have to know someone. It would just be nice to see some of our cars and talk of the club.

Your thoughts please or suggestions

Michael

I have had that many Fiats they gave me a job selling them

I'm close to finishing my Delta turbo install so will be trying to push my car to one of the mags.
Rob maybe we should approach Retro cars with a 3 car special and include Pete Thorpes beast?

I've been talking to Classic Car Mart about a 7 page buyers guide - should be in the September issue.

There should also be a write up about the club and our National Event in Classic Car Buyer soon.

And I've been in touch with Auto Italia about reviving the article that we tried to do over the last couple of years - a 3-car 'shoot out' with a write up on the club.

Should be some good exposure amongst that lot, but we need volunteers with cars.

I had my hillclimb prepared X1/9 in Retro cars a number of years ago in April 2006.
At the time I just sent them an e-mail and some basic pics. They organised a local photographer set up a photo shoot. They wrote the text based on info I provided. It ended up a 2-3 page artical!
Local magazine here in Northern Ireland (Carsport) also ran the artical in a very similar format.

Cheers
Gordon

I remember your car in Retro Cars. It was a good article and the pictures were great. Interesting to hear about how you made it happen. Fab :P

the hampshire area of the retro car club asked me to display my x1/9 on centre stage of a recent show but i declined because at the moment i am with the x1/9 owners club but the way they reacted over my x1/9 at one of their meetings was fantastic, they loved the car,it was nice to get some appreciation instead of remarks like from some of our members who say 'oh an x1/9 should be left standard, its so wrong to do what has been done' yet at every car show i have attended with the green machine people who are non members love it and not being bitchy they practically ignore the other x1/9s,yes my x1/9 is wild but its a ex race car,its unique and best of all it's mine :)

That sucks. Everyone is entitled to do whatever they want to their own car. It's okay not to like what people have done to their cars (or previous owners, in this case), but you have to respect that it's their choice.

Pete if anyone makes comments about my car in ear shot they better prepare for a major session of the Grand Old Lancashire Art of Ecckhhy Thump.
The traditional northern martial art.
It mainly consists of flying headbutts and spitting but can be very effective

thanks guys,i appreciate most x1/9s and if i didn't like one i wouldn't criticise it especially in front of the owner but some people speak before they think and i worked as a doorman for 18 years so got most of my violent streak out of me :) trouble is some people don't have the courage or capability to move away from a standard car, beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say and the hulk is beautiful lol
