Can someone tell me (despite admittly it looking very sexy and wanting one, and being glad at least theres some thing italian and sporty finally that i can maybe afford one day...) why the hell fiat didnt make this a modern x1/9?
How comes all fiats extra money always goes to alfa? they've ruined Lancia and now the car that should be the new x1/9 gets alfa'd.
Alfas to me should be normally aspirated, rwd and front engined...

rant over...

Shirley, it's because if they stick a Fiat badge on it, they can't put the same price sticker on it?

It's why I don't expect to see an updated Fiat X1/9.

The nearest Fiat got to with a modern X1/9 was the Barchetta, shame they never officially made it RHD....

Its certainly do-able, as the fiat 1.8 is very similar to the fiat 1.6 (as per Bravo etc) and I have heard of these going into X1/9's. However in my opinion if I was in the position to be doing a 1.8 swap I'd go the whole hog and put a 2 litre or turbo engine in as the 1.8 is a pretty thirsty engine, (I speak from experience, the girlfriend has a Punto HGT which has the same engine) and although a nice reliable unit its not spectacular in performance...
