Looks like Fiat are on the verge of re-opening the old Bertone plant to build Maseratis:

Also, there's a really good piece around the resurgence of the Bertone design house in Automobile magazine:

I found that second article, on how Bertone was lost after the death of Nuccio, and then built up again, really interesting.

maybe there might be a modern version of the X1/9 coming along?

It's been done with Stratos so the exxy would be cool and probably a good seller for Fiat.

1983 1500 (currently restoring it)
1989 1500 GF - on the road
2003 Mazda RX8 - modern version of the X1/9

Aspires to a Lancia MonteCarlo (code number by Fiat and Lancia X1/8 then X1/20)

But given the price of the new Stratos you'd be looking at around £100k for the new X1/9, and I can't see that being acceptable (certainly not for me, anyway - MarkP would probably have 2 !)

just would be nice if Fiat could some up with something to beat the hundreds of MX5's on the road.

Well Fiat were talking to Lotus about using one of their platforms and they seem to have moved on to KTM now. I think the price point is putting it more into high end Alfa territory though. At least they're thinking about it ...

I don't want Fiat to bring out a 'new' X1/9 as I might end up getting into debt buying one!

As for Mark P if he got a 'new' X1/9, he would stick huuuge arches on it in no time, take it to pieces and respray it lime green and then sell it in quick succession....

It would definitely be great for the club (but probabnly only if they use the X1/9 name).

But I just can't see it happening in the current climate. :?
