I got some keys here: Fast Service - With these blanks any
key cutter will be able to make you a match.

On cars of this age the locks could have been changed numerous times, so a chassis number etc is unlikely to deliver the answer.

Not sure what the solution is.

A little birdy told me there is less than 10 variants of key for the X1/9 doors. So wait till the next meet and try all the keys till one fits LOL...

Or do what I did and install a very lazy remote locking kit. Hey Presto!!!

Ta,

TP

amazingly previous owner made a secret key box hidden in the bumpers and the new owner found spare keys inside...great ending

If there are 10 or so variants of the keys, then we could be in a bit of luck. I just found the picture below which shows the keys of an X1/9 alongside the keys of a Lamborghini Countach. Notice any similarities ? Hmmm ... ?! Next time I'm at a car show ...

What I have done in the past is remove the glove box lock as it and the 2 handed latch along with the door key all should be the same.

Now depending on what your skill level is like if you take the glove box lock out and appart you will see that it is a very simple lock with only 4 sliding tumblers. It is very easy now to take a blank key and insert it into the barrel and watch the 4 tumblers lift to different heights. Remove the key and file a notch then reinstert into the barrel to see if the tumbler is flush with the barrel, if not file some more. When flush do the next tumbler and start filing the same way. You will now have a key made for the glove box. Try it into the door and 2 handle latch. With luck no one has swapped them out over the years. If you find you now have an odd that only fits the glove box you must revert to either trying the same with the two Handle latch or take a door apart and start filing a n new key again. You could take it to a lock smith but be ready to pay for his services.
