Hi,
Thought I would post some pics of my progress on stripping my red 1983 1500....

It looked quite a tidy car on initial inspection and I did buy it with the intention of completely stripping it and rebuilding it so no real issues or horrors discovered so far.

I'm trying to get as mush off as possible before I put it on a chassis tilter to get to the underneath and really sort it out.

So here's some pics.

The first batch are the pics from the original sellers advert.

1983 1500 (currently restoring it)
1989 1500 GF - on the road
2003 Mazda RX8 - modern version of the X1/9

Aspires to a Lancia MonteCarlo (code number by Fiat and Lancia X1/8 then X1/20)

Some pics as I have started to strip the car...

Like most old cars the front footwells are shot and need replacing.. Also the back bulkhead has some severe rot. I'm waiting to see what's going to be uncovered when I drop the fuel tank out the other side..

Here's an example of the tilter I'm going to use.

Hi Terry
The body looks pretty good, are you planning on keeping it pretty standard?
or going for the full 1300 look?

Mark

Hello Mark,
still undecided about going the full 1300 look. I like the 1300 look the concern I have is that the big bumpers do give some extra bump protection. Definately will fit the 1300 engine cover as I never really liked the big 1500 cover. I always thought it spoiled the lines of the original design. A trial fit shows it needs quite a few mods to get that 1300 look. Not least petrol tank filler is different angle. Plus will need side draught carbs to get the height reduction I will contact henk to see if he has new old stock 1300 tank. There is quite a lot of old rot filling in the usual places so might fit repair panels or even go for new wings and sort out the underneath properly. Either way I want to do as best a job as possible given time, finance and my skill set.

make sure you do plenty of photos and provide a write-up for the club mag!

If you take off the original 1500 air filter case and trim it down a few mm it does fit, and flexi pipe can be used for the fuel slot. all pretty cheap mods if you do them your self... 8)
