What's this in the boot ?

Found this pic of a German car (I think) with a strange bit of ducting in the rear boot.

Anyone know what it is and what it does ? Is it picking up cool air from the boot (wouldn't have thought there was much air flow in that area ?



This is the engine bay, if it helps ?



And this is a general shot, just cos it looks so nice :)

It's fuel injected so probably American.
It looks similar to the carb cooling fan arrangement on European versions. I wonder if the owner has felt the need for extra cooling and that is the only place the fan arrangement can fit?

I've seen this on American FI cars (in pics). Think it's factory. Is that a UK X1/9 O.C.? window sticker. Is there not some kind of alternator cooling on AC cars, look at the corrigated tube at the timing belt side???

Yes that's the old Owners Club sticker in the back window... Frosty vintage that one :-)
