i am thinking of making my own engine lid so it will be better ventilated than the original and a cold air pipe going from the side vents to the carb, yes does sound great, looks great too and allows work on the engine to be more managable

A Ha!!!

A K+N post...

You're right, they sound great!! But that's the normal engine noise, not the effect of the K+N.

Rant rant... An open inlet will give you the same sound; the K+N will keep the rocks out of the engine but not the damaging 12-20 micron dust. Just be aware that a 'lifetime' filter only lasts a lifetime because it never blocks... because it doesn't stop anything significant getting into the engine!!!

Phew.. Chest offloaded.

You dont want a small bolt on filter that sits on top of a hot exhaust manifold.

You want a DIY induction thingy like mine using:
a ALPHA cone filter
a bit of dent plastic tube taken from my leaf blower
length of neoprene ducting
and a carb adaptor thing.

All put together to positioned the filter right at the side air scoop to catch crisp cold air 8) .

To be honest I am quite proud of it :D

What's wrong with the way it left the factory? Standard air filter and engine lid works well for all of my cars ........ If your cooling system is looked after properly you shouldn't have any need to modify

If it's a turbo conversion then I can understand all this time spent messing about ...... Rolling road proves all of this, just ask Ian Thomson for the figures.

just having fun with my car Ewan thats all. :D

I enjoy the tinkering bit of owning my cars.

It not the "need" to modify its the "want" to modify

I have my standard car, my not standard car and my restration car.

Happy days 8)

Quite right - we do these things because we want to, not because we need to.

Understandable, I was the same to a certain degree, however misinformation does cause a few of us to add & remove bits that in standard form, offer optimum performance.

Ying and yang so to speak ........ I'm adding the yang to this discussion! .... along with Martin I hasten to add 8)

i found that re-jetting the carb with 120/135 jets and the k+n filter have cured the engine of any hesitation and the performance was much improved and the sound is very nice so i am a happy chappy,i believe jo scammia? had his x1/9 rolling roaded with before and after bhp figures(fiat cars were always under-jetted for max fuel figures)and had 58bhp at the wheels before and 64bhp at the wheels after whilst altering the timing....
