x2/9 was created by thorpeyx1/9
over the years there have been many rumours about a new x1/9 being created and what with the new panda and new 500 who knows it may happen,taking that into account what would the new x2/9 looklike, what spec would you create?we all know that fiat let the x1/9 down by not realising its potential my own personal x2/9 would be as follows;
it would have the styling of the lido(the prettiest x1/9)
15 inch wheels
bigger rear brakes with bias to rear and servo
punto turbo engine with 160bhp
6 speed box
galvanised chassis and body panels
non pop up lights(fixed)
leather sports seats
twin rad fans
better gear ratios 60mph in 2nd
adjustable coilovers
also a 200 bhp abarth version with wide arch kit and wheels
so tell me what you would have as style spec?

Found this about a new x1/9

IED X1/99 concept

The X1/99 is a contemporary sports car design that takes inspiration from the original, Bertone designed X1/9 of 1972. Designed by seven students of the post-diploma transportation course at the European Institute of Design in Turin, the X1/9 aims to show what type of 'sporting Fiat' would rejuvenate the brand if produced.

The concept’s core functional innovation is a roof that folds to become a rear seat when the car is open, although only having rear seats when the roof is off might not be such a strong USP. A relatively long wheelbase, a unique design theme and well resolved surfaces make this an attractive and distinct design, if not as expressive as the Stratos – another compact, mid engine, early seventies sports car reincarnation debuting at the show.

But what is particularly unique about this design is that it demonstrates a successful collaboration between educational and business establishments - in this case Fiat and Webasto. In doing so it exposes students’ capabilities in an environment of industry concept and production cars, and generates valuable publicity for the sponsoring companies. Lets hope that we see more of this type of project in the future...

What do you think??

well to be honest i am not a fan of modern car styling hence thats why i opted for the look of the lido model, the x1/99 looks too bulky and the front end looks a bit like a coupe, but saying that it would probably sell very well,i enjoying 'driving' a car and when you get power steering i think it spoils the drive,if you saw the x1/99 for the first time on the street and it was not badged i dont think you would be able to guess it was derived from the x1/9,the new panda still looks similar to the old panda and the new 500 lookslike the old 500,slight styling changes are unavoidable but when it strays too far it loses the original charactor and looks we originally lusted

I think that if Fiat did ever bring the X1/9 back to life we would be one very dissappointed group of people. It would be too big, too expensive, the engine might even be at the front, the styling would be waay off ... etc etc. We'd look at it and shake our heads, muttering and mumbling under our breath.

:?

On the plus side, it might help with the membership figures

hi chris your probably right and it all depends if the styling is left in the hands of 'bertone' once again
