Best drivers road in the country ? was created by browny1315
Over the last 3 weeks I have had the pleasure of having to drive around some of the best roads in the country, as 'progressively' as is safely possible (and being paid to do it too, in someone else's car / fuel / tyres etc). This got me thinking...which is the best road out there and why ? I've got two more weeks of driving to go, but my current favourite road has to be the A68 Northbound to Jedburgh. oh you lucky Scottish members.

The A482 from Llandovery to Lampeter. It’s nice and twisty, yet open enough to allow you to ’paint the road’. It also has just enough straight bits to take in the scenery.

My current role is fantastic but the downside is that you have to concentrate so much on the road that you miss the scenery.
Another good one (if you like it twisty) is the A684 in either direction. It runs East / West below the A66. Plenty of places to visit too- I sound like the tourest board !!

If I get the chance i'll try your recommendation, thanks Simon.

Andy.

Well sort of Frosty, (Kirkcaldy, Fife) but just now Im in the north of france, Anyway, it means you have to do the roads twice, once on the Bandit and again in the exxy! and with global warming it means the best time to do them is Jan and Feb, blue skys, no wind and none of the undead littering the roads at 30 m.p.h.
You know the ones, flat cap, bottle bottomed glasses, smell of mothballs, doesnt use mirrors or indicators as they were not fitted to the horse and cart they sat the driving test on. They have right of way because they are old enough to remember the war (crimean) and they will do 30 outside town and 40 in town... and and and and and ... why do they always go to the supermarket on a satarday? They have got all bloody week? compulsory euthanasia, I say!.. and it will help balance the budget! Sorry I have to take my medication now... no nurse! the crayons are not sharpened...

A537 Buxton Road (AKA The Cat and Fiddle, after the pub at its peak), Macclesfield, Cheshire.

Lots of sweeping bends with some great views. It also had the dubious distinction of topping the 'Road Crash League' some years ago.

A537 Cat and Fiddle

Some other favourites are the A57 'Snake Pass' from Glossop to Sheffield and the A628 'Woodhead Pass' from Mottram.

On the bike or in the car these are great roads.

Have to second the Cat & Fiddle!

In the late 80's, when I first owned an Exxy, (A832 MVU, funny how the reg sticks!), I lived near Liverpool and my girlfriend lived near Nottingham
so I used to to that road each way most weekends in all weathers - never came to serious grief either! (If you don't count the brake smoke and brown trousers the time a suicidal sheep jumped into the road in front of me!)

Local to me now in surrey the B3012 between Brookwood and Frimely is short (3 miles ish) but great fun!
