Well my plans have all changed.

Got my new lovely CSC manifold, all excited got the ovies on and ratchet in hand started to remove the manifolds.
All was going well, loosening the nuts bit by bit, but the second last nut wasn't wanting to move
so plenty wd40 and left it over night. Still not wanting to move so plenty heat and finaly got a squeak of it :) more heat and working it back and forth thought all was well them the stud went "tink", snapped about 2mm resessed into the head  .

any and all sympathetic comments very welcome

Now I have had 50/50 luck with easyouts in the past so thought what the hell give it a bash. Only luck wasn't with me and I snapped the easy out as well  always a risk. Nothing for it but to take the head off :( .

As the gearbox was already out the only thing holding the block in was the O/S engine mount bolt so what the hell out with the block

I wasnt planning on removing the engine at all but working round it. but now I am going to put the old suspension back on and get it down to the spray shop to get the engine bay done properly. Recon and gasflow the topend before refitting. Job done properly 8)

So instead of having it back on the road early spring now looking at early summer. Oh well

Cheers

Hi Guy

I guess cosidering the age and likely length of time since the engine was last stripped you faired better than I did with Yap. The head was seized to the block and needed to hammer it off. The thermostate bolts all snapped and yes a couple of the manifold studs snapped.

These cars always end up a much bigger job than initially thought.

Looks like your lido will be well sorted by the time you complete all the work.

While the engine is out it would be a good idea to attend to the suspension towers to avoid future MOT failures. 8)

I had always planned to do the engine/engine bay but not this way round as it was sound and running I wanted to use it in the spring. Oh well.

Grimy: I am lucky the strut towers are sound with just minimal serface rust to treat but yes the the engine bay is going to get blasted and sorted properly so that the little car gett another 30 years on the road.
