A sad e-mail to me which reads the following:

Gentili signori,
vi scrivo per darvi una triste notizia: purtroppo Pietro Antonini "il mitico", socio del vostro circolo è deceduto negli scorsi giorni.
Cordiali saluti.

Dear Gentlemen,
I am writing to give you some sad news: unfortunately Pietro Antonini "il mitico", a member of your club died in recent days.
Sincerely.
Gabriella

A great loss to the world of the X1/9. Pietro had been talking about retiring to the mountains but what is going to happen to his X1/9 Dallara? Shocking & very sad news, we have lost a good friend and a true gentleman. I hope that we can return to Lozzolo in the near future, to see Gabriella and enjoy a gathering to celebrate Pietro's life and our love of Bertone's masterpiece.

"il mitico" - "the mythic" he was the owner of the original Dallara. I first saw it in 1993 and we last visited him in June 2007. Shame we weren't able to say ciao one last time this year.

Very sad news Ewen.

I know he was close to your heart in mind and spirit and you will feel his loss greatly.

I regret now not making the effort in the past to meet him.
