Anyone tried Autotesting in their X1/9? was created by IainB
I was at an event on Saturday sharing a Honda Civic with my mum (born again rally driver!) and I've been toying with the idea of entering my 1300 Dallara when she's ready... Has anyone done anything like this?
Here what wikipedia says about autotesting:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autotesting
Here the Civic giving it the beans on Saturday, and yes it really was that wet! The car is totally standard apart from a steering knob (for one handed steering) and rear tyres blown up to 40psi for a bit more oversteer!
If anyone would be interested in taking part around Glasgow let me know, its fantastic fun and only cost £12 for the day (8 runs). There is usually a tarmac test every month and its open to all cars. There are events run all over the country so if you fancy a shot just contact the local motorsports club, I would recommend it to anyone!
Just to give you an idea of different cars, the fastest was a Mini Moke and also a custom made, mid engined buggy. I came 2nd in class behind a 5 door Rover 200 so really anything goes.
It would be great to have an X1/9 competing sometime, you don't even need an MOT, tax or insurance so no excuses chaps!
Regards,
Iain

Autotests are great fun
I used to do them in my company escort estate!! Won one event too! Only went in for grass autotests as the tarmac ones are the kiss of death for your tyres ..Also, at tarmac events, you can guarantee there'll be some smart ar*e who turns up with a custom mini moke on a trailer.....
The most difficult thing I found was trying to remember the test layout...

Yes, a set a cheap tyres are a must on tarmac! The wet weather helps too.
Luckily the minis/mokes have a class of their own, we were entered in Class 3 which is for all saloons under 1600cc.
The courses can be pretty complicated, I jogged around them for a few laps before, that seemed to help.
The caterhams and other lotus 7 replicas were all over the place in the wet, looked like good fun though

There's a nice wee slalom event in Italy that some of us go to every year. Nice testing course and a truly international line up. I just happen to be defending champion for whatever that's worth. Great fun and a great bunch of people. Wouldn't miss it for the world

Autotesting is pretty good in the X19.
I enter a grass series every year. I never get above half way up the leader board, but then I guess my power tail slide technique is more spectacular than quick!
Best way in is to join your local non manufacturer specific car club.
