Fuse Box Connector was created by Neil Ottaway
I recently started to get a strange fizzing sound from the fuse box whenever starting the exxy (1988 standard model). I've finally got round to checking it out and this connector in the bottom left corner of the fuse box has melted away.
Does anyone have a spare that they would be prepared to sell? Would corrosion of the contacts here cause this to overheat or is there likely to be something wrong with my starter to cause it to draw too much current? It's always been a little tempremental, taking a few attempts before it actually turns if it hasn't been used for a week or two, as if it's siezed slightly. My previous exxy suffered from the same problem. Is this common?
Any help would be appreciated,
Neil

Hi Neil,
Yes it is common, or rather corroded and bad earths are.
I had a similar slow-start problem with my Exx when I bought it (the seller thought he had charging problem) which turn out to be a corroded and very badly fitted earth lead attachment bolt.
Corrosion will cause the overheat because it reduces the electrcal conducting area and has the same effect as using wire that is too small for the current being drawn (I had smoke coming from the bulkhead behind the battery each time I started).
You will be pleased to know I have got a spare, uncorroded, connector on a fusebox I removed from a scrap Exx that I broke for spares just for this sort of occasion. You can have it for a couple of quid; send me a PM with your address and I will send it to you.

Many thanks for that Bruce. I've sent you a PM; let me know if you don't get it as I've known them go astray occasionally.
Thanks,
Neil
