Speakers for 1980s Sharp Stereo

I have a 1989 Grand Finale. I have a 1980s Sharp Stereo I am looking to fit. Does any one know where I can source small oval speakers (ideally same period) to fit on the rear shelf? I don't really want to hack around with the door cards. Also does anybody have recommendations for a suitable electrical aeriel?

Hi Steve, I am pretty sure I saved the original speakers from my 89 GF when I stripped the interior last year. I will have a look in the loft and let you know.

Hi Martin.

Thanks for your reply. I would be very interested if you have held on to them.

Coincidence. I am also on here looking for the same parcel shelf oval speakers for a GF. I was wondering if anyone had some or knew of a similar aftermarket replacement.

you can still buy the correct size speakers - 4x6 I think.

Original period items are best of course

The problem with getting new ones is they need to be quite low profile to clear the top of the petrol tank. I tried fitting some Blaupunkt ones last summer and they didn't fit due to this.

My car has some 80's kenwood speakers which are ok. The size has its limits.

I think that red X1/9 in Dubai has speakers in boxes behind the headrests? Interesting idea...

Who needs 4th gear anyway...

I've got a lot of experience of 6x4 speakers as a serial (and current) owner of mk2 VW Sciroccos. There are also clearance issues in those cars, and the most popular for its blend of sound quality and price is this: Alpine speakers However I don't think those have grilles. JBL GTO series used to be good too, but not sure they still make them.

My old X1/9 had small speakers, almost like home stereo bookshelf ones, in the footwells.
