WTB: Mk2 Uno Turbo Camshaft

Hi everyone,

I have a Mk1 UnoTurbo engine that I'm rebuilding and will transplant into my X1/9 next winter (finally!)

I'd like to find a Mk2 Uno Turbo cam for it, and wondering if someone has one and willing to sell. Shipping would be to Toronto, ON Canada. Basically my understanding is that the Mk2 cam works well in the Mk1 engine as a cheap upgrade over stock (I read it on the internet, so it must be true :) I bought one on ebay that the seller claimed was from a Mk2, but after measuring it - it clearly isn't!

Thanks!

Second hand Uno Turbo parts are starting to get scarce, but new performance cams are still listed. However, the easiest and simplest way to squeeze a bit more power out of the standard turbo engine which is in good condition is increase the boost by removing the boost limiter switch and fitting an adjustable boost valve. However don't take this too far from standard as it will end in tears unless other engine management modifications are in place - this is the probably the main reason why there are not spares around for these engines.
I got to 130ish hp on standard parts from my 1.4 turbo but it was marginal when looking at the fuelling and probably caused a broken piston which I was lucky to get away with. We are now expecting a reliable 200hp, but the list of parts to get that far is long and expensive - but I think worth it  , that is until the internals of the gearbox make a break for freedom

Thanks for the info, and agree on all points.

The engine is being completely rebuilt. I've found NOS pistons, injectors, AFM, ECU's, hoses, you name it.. I've rebuilt the turbo itself already (not cheap!), and am familiar with the transplant from soup to nuts as they say.

I don't think an air-air intercooler is the best option (I'm planning to actually test if the side scoop is effective at bringing in air using an anemometer, remove slats, etc etc..). We'll see. Stock ECU, stock injectors, perhaps with a rising rate PFR although I have a brand new one (OE)

Yes, the plan is to increase boost after proper break in. I want it to be reliable first and foremost, and it will be mated to a fresh gearbox rebuild using a Strada/Ritmo final drive (3:59-1). Apparently with the boost turned up, 130hp at the crank is achievable. That would be nice, as my race X was 135hp but naturally aspirated (dual 45DCOE's on a PBS BV head + lots of other goodies).

I may opt to just use the 1.3 cam and be done with it, but IF I find a 1.4 cam.. well, I believe it will provide a better power range when you're off boost/and on boost.

Cheers!

After trying to fit the standard air to air intercooler I gave up due to it being difficult to get decent air flow to it, it stuffs up the engine bay, difficult pipe run and struggles to flow enough air much past the standard hp. I fitted a PWR charge cooler which gives a much neater & shorter pipe run, flows soooo much better (so you can lower boost) and is good for 200hp+. Draw backs are having to plumb in pipework to a to a front mounted radiator and also the need to fit a water pump and electrical feed. If you send me a PM I can email some pictures and info over if that would help

Cool, and thank you.

I would opt to make my own air-air intercooler (ok, actually to have Bell make me one) with same inlet/outlet as OEM. But, airflow is the enemy here - at low speed (when I'd be using boost the most!), it probably won't flow much air through the side duct.

I have a pump already, high flow - as I was going to use a different water to air system - but it was far too oversized. For 150hp, you don't need a massive heat exchanger - but having a proper charge cooler and header tank would be ideal.

I'll send you a PM. Thanks! Information and pics is always helpful :)
