Uno Turbo cylinder head

After stripping the engine down for what was going to be a routine overhaul I found that the cylinder head has numerous cracks with a couple of them being terminal :( - the likely source of the problems I was having at the end of the season. I don't suppose anybody has a 1.4 Uno Turbo/Punto Gt cylinder head gathering dust they would like to sell.

Thanks for digging the head out. The cracks I had were between all the valves (very common apparently, but not always terminal and can be fixed) and several long radial cracks running off the exhaust valves that were beyond fixing. We only spotted them when the head was cleaned. The engine reconditioners reckon the head is a non turbo item that has been machined to a turbo spec - valves, combustion chamber, ?,?. PM sent

They all do that Sir, especially the latest compressed GT3 heads.
As it is quite hard to source a decent used head (new are over 500 quid) you can take a standard 1.4 tipo head, machine the chamber and valves (intake/exhaust are different)and plug some holes.
Technically it is the same head that had an easier life...

Funny you should say that as the engine reconditioners reckon that the head did not start life as a non turbo head. However, I have sourced a good head and so well on the way with the rebuild

Too much boost and the fact the turbo is too small creating backpressure and high temperatures seems the main cause for the cracks.
On later punto head the CR is also higher so problem is even bigger.
I am rebuilding a GT1 for the x1/9 conversion....
