Hi Marco,
I ditched the fibre optic cables and used the power from the fibre optics' T10 bulb socket wires that is located low down on the floor in the centre console section to power T5 equivilent LEDs for the window lift switches & the dash rheostat illumination. I used more local power near the headlight lift switch to illuminate that with a T5 equivilent LED.
It is a bit fiddly modifying the fibre items to accept LED 'bulbs' but after working on getting the best out of the fibre set up, and being left a little disappointed by the result, I was delighted when the hard work of getting the LED's installed payed off.
There are several advantages to LEDs
Little to no heat generated means that the push button switches' fragile white bulb holders will not be subject to heat stress.
Less amps used than bulbs - in an X, every little helps.
A choice of colours available in LEDs
One disadvantage with LEDs is, unlike a bulb, they are one way only. So if you think you have just put in a u/s LED, try taking it out and rotating 180 degrees and put it back in again.

Hi Marco,
It is actually a very good question as I remember scratching my head over the same issue.
The principle is simple: lever the switch towards you.
Doing it without damage to the switch or padded surround is something else.
Use an old credit/loyalty card to protect the padded dash from the leverage of the screwdriver.
Use a screwdriver with as wide a blade as is practical to minimise the stress on the side of the switch.
Lever the switch carefully towards you (see diagram).
Good Luck!

I managed to get the head light switch out on my GF with the aid of 2 long thin screw drivers and a small mirror, working from behind the dashboard.
It meant up inside the dash working a screwdriver either side of the switch.
Very fiddly as the mirror kept moving so couldn't see what I was doing.
However, after a bit of patience and a lot of swearing I got it out, stripped it down and cleaned it. It wasn't easy but is the correct way to do it and saved damaging the front of the dashboard.
The older design was much better and easier to remove.
Good luck!

IIRC the fibre cable to the Headlight Switch gets routed up the Centre Console, past the Cigar Lighter, behind the [removed] Instrument Cluster and on to the Headlight Switch?
The Cigar Lighter is not illuminated by fibre optics, it uses a T5 bulb.
