Ready for painting...pic heavy

Worked on the car today, bought a 2nd hand Ansa exhaust and fitted it plus took lots of bits off ready for the paint I have been very lucky I can't find any rust anywhere. All the cavities are full of Waxoyl so I would think somebody at some time has had the bodywork done and taken the time to have it rust prevented after and I am now benefiting from that!

The car goes in to the body shop on Monday and the trimmers the week after. Quite a few pics below the only thing I am struggling with is how to take the front bumpers off and the grills at the base of the screen I have taken the screws out but they are still attached by some sort of lug that I cannot fathom how to release. The front screen is out tomorrow by a pal of mine that has done screens for many years.

Finished as much as I could today only the front bumpers am struggling with, I have decided on a white leather interior with black piping. I am not a traditionalist and I am not bothered about keeping the car as it was so I am colouring the dash and armrests black to match, the original brown won't look right. I am having the seats fitted with heating elements as well, also having new door cards made and covered in leather. The screen we took out today was made in 97 and not a bit of rust which is remarkable.

Well done for not following the traditional way and making the car your own. That will be two Lido's in the country with no jobby brown on the inside

Whats the problem with the bumpers?

Charles I have the front grill off but can't see where the nuts are and how do you get to the ones on the wings?

A wiggle and pull and they should come off with loads of swearing.. If you lose the plot- just hit them with the mash hammer.

Thanks Charles all sorted now the levers need a tiny screwdriver to prise them open so they can come off the metal levers which have a small lug on one side that retains the plastic ones, if you don't open them up where they slide on and off they will break luckily I got all 3 off but it takes a little bit of force. ;)

The trimmer is on with my interior and I called down at the bodywork's today, the doors had a bit more rot than was 1st thought as did the bonnet but the rest of the car was just superficial. By next week I will have the car back and the interior should be finished so it's back to putting everything back together which funnily enough is a fair bit harder than taking apart! The wheels are going to be restored and the dash is being painted black as is the centre console by the trimmer.

Very nice work from your painter who obviously knows what he is doing.

PS, I think that exhausts awful and will ruin the car

Fair comment I still have the original so I will decide when it's all back together and finished.

Kevin... You cant put that "rusty old original pish exhaust" back on that car after all the good work.

Surely it deserves a nice stainless single exit homemade system?
