It's a huge event with over 100 car clubs and 7,000 classics plus 2 days of historic racing from 1950s to 1980s, with all the trimmings, air displays, etc. Check out the website www.silverstoneclassic.com .
If anyone else is going, there may be time to get the club registered for the Club Display Package which gives us cheaper tickets and an infield parking pitch. If a couple of members will commit to going, to get the ball rolling, I think it would be good to see some X1/9 representation at the event.
Don't be fooled by the website camping prices (which are stratospheric), there are very much more sensibly priced options - I have contacts! So get in touch!

The racing is great and the cars and car clubs are fantastic. Ticket prices are slashed for car clubs.

I had a similar experience blagging as a Cobra ( I kid you not!) in 2010.
Got to say the Cobra guys were a great bunch & very friendly. I'll be meeting up with them again this year.

 I am trying to think of the name of the car AC made that "sort of" looked like an X19 if you hadnt gone to specsavers and stood 3/4 mile away!
I should be able to get us tagged onto the Fiat Dino stand if we struggle with uptake on this event... But the club shouldn't struggle to get uptake... Nice cars, live music, good beer, racing, get up close to the cars/drivers, garden party atmosphere...
The few Cobra guys I have met over the years at Le Mans are indeed a decent folk, but then in fairness, most petrol heads are!

My Dad has just booked his tickets with another car club. There is a postage fee to add to that £80 (I think he said £7.50).
Have you got any details about the camping as the prices on the Silverstone campsite have gone up with a bang since I stayed on it. In the early days at Coys, I remember camping next to the grandstands, then about 10 years ago I camped in the marshals campsite, but I guess both those options are not an option now.
100% up for this, so if I can help out with anything, let me know.

I rang my mate in the Cobra Club and so far there is no word on cheap camping just yet. He says they usually get to know where to go nearer the date. Last year they were expecting to camp almost directly opposite the main entrance, as in previous years, but the heavy rain had waterlogged the site and they ended up on the Silverstone official campsite for the first time.
He said it had superb facilities, although you do pay for it. As soon as I hear anything, I'll post it on the forum, but it will nearer the event.
Rob is getting the Club registered, so it's all systems go! It's ON!

I think the one across from the main entrance is the old marshals site, that is good too, although its been a good few years since I stayed on that one.

For lovers of top notch facilities, go for Silverstone's own onsite camp, 'Woodlands'. Its not cheap at £40 per person, but that is for the entire weekend. See the silverstoneclassic website to book.
For better value(?) and convenience, try the Litchlake Farm Campsite, right opposite the main entrance to the circuit. You can pay on arrival, £15p/p per night, or £25 p/p for 2 nights. (I'll be on this one). Usual facilities including bar & hot food on site & 24hr security.
There are some other sites - google silverstone camping & the web will provide!

Travelodge's best options for Silverstone were Northampton (Wootton) or Milton Keynes Old Stratford at £24 and £30 for Sat night.
Both are a few miles from Silverstone, but closer than Northampton. Its a little cheaper in Northampton at £23 for the Central travelodge.
There is always Towcester Travelodge at £176 (and counting!) if you win the lottery.
I glanced at Premier Inn & the prices seemed broadly similar. Prices will inevitably rise as time goes by, but they are current for 31/01/13, so BOOK NOW, or pay more later. There will be a lot of classic cars in those hotel car parks that weekend!!
