Regalia Shop

Hi All

As you may or may not know I am the new Regalia Officer for the club, I thought it was going to be easy how wrong was I, more passwords and logins that I thought I would ever need in my life.

However I am looking for ideas for new products or just things to sell (that we all might actually want to buy). if anybody out there come across people that make badges, mats or just about anything please let me know.

Ps bare with me if you have any orders outstanding I have three going out in the post tomorrow.

I think that Neil Ottaway mention the site is Joomla base, I found a auction extension that could be used.

The club could gain some revenue by hosting auctions purely focused on new / used spares for x1/9s. Charging only a small fee / percentage for the facility (undercutting ebay).

If it could be made to work I think it would attract more traffic onto the website, and increase membership.

After all, if you are selling something for an X1/9 where better to advertise it than the owners club?

Would this be a possibility Rob / Terry?

Have you any thoughts about implementing something along those lines?

We must never forget all of the officers in a car club are volunteers. I have been on the committee of another car club, and as strange as this may sound revenue streams were often the main topic of conversation. In the States most of the clubs are run as a business however the ethos of the club would vanish if revenue was the main reason of our existence.

The main scource of revenue is the membership subs and I have argued to maintain that revenue membership retention is paramount to contiued existance any one margue car club. The number of cars on the road often reflect the membership numbers. Maybe a revamp of the regailia every couple of years could help with increased revenue.

We can come up with brilliant ideas as to what the club can do, however remember the club is the members and as such we all have a part to play in keeping running.

Surely the timing belt sticker isn't too big is it?

It's a low cost item that club members were interesting in but having difficulty in obtaining, so it might be something the club has a vested interest in providing.

If an item is only available via the club it may encourage non members to interact and join, supporting your membership retention and revenue goals.

As for the idea of hosting the auction, the club would not have to store or provide any goods, in the same way eBay doesn't ever physically handle the goods sold on its website. (There are no storage or size issues to be addressed.)

My original post asked Rob / Terry for their opinion, because what I don't fully appreciate is the website development and maintenance effort required in implementing such things.

I see the generation of ideas and discussion around them part of the contribution to the club.

For now I'm off to eBay to buy an X1/9 keyring and to the Mk1 Cortina owners club ( www.mk1cortina.com/ ) to buy some spares for the Lotus Cortina.

My mistake on the sticker yes its small enough but not really cost effective it would cost the club £690 + set up costs to print the stickers, then we would have 250 stickers, ( or £336 for 100)
We would have to sell everyone a sticker in the club to break even.

I have looked at the Cortina site and the parts section is excellent, but over my head sorry

You could take this on as a new role within the club if it’s possible

I have a company close by that might be able to do stickers.... post some pics up and let me know what you are after.

Might be kinda cool to get some retro stickers made like the olio and all the other service / factory stickers if people want them...

Not sure about the costings you've quoted there Michael was thinking more like £20 for 150 (13p each)



Also the 150 could be made up from 6 different styles split 25 of each for example.

It's not that you asked a question and answered it, I possed a question asking for help. If you had offered the club someone to make he stickers then great.

I think we should have a big bonfire for all the regalia stuff

OK lets take a step back and think what we really want to do here and take a deep breath

I ran an online shop a few years back and believe me it was hard work and I spent most of my free time completing orders, managing stock and trips to the post office. Not to be taken on lightly given that we have day jobs and this is a hobby.

At the end of the day I didn't make a huge amount of money (after paying tax and expenses) so I jacked it in.

So trying to go down that route like the MGB owners club or other big clubs would almost certainly need a full time person to run it and manage the orders. Plus the club would have to outlay for stock that would potentially not get sold.

So I think what we should be trying to do is to offer some nice stuff that the club members want based around the X1/9 that is not readily available via other outlets like Eurosport or any other X1/9 part dealer and make these also available to other X1/9 owners via the club shop. do we have any sales figures on the sales of regalia over the last couple of years?

So lets get some ideas of stuff that people would like then I can set up a poll and see what we decide to get.

The other idea is to affiliate and provide a sell through via Eurosport or another X1/9 dealer. So instead of having a shop containing loads of stuff we have a link or sell through on our website with a click through that generates a revenue from a sale. So for instance a sale of some goods generates a sell through revenue of £1 or £1.50 for the club.

lets have some thoughts on that...

I kinda get where your coming from on the auction site bit after having a look at the software. I think what we could do is to run the auction site but use if for people to sell their stuff and allow members and non members to sell X1/9 related items. So in effect x1/9 ebay. The club could either take a percentage of the sale or a one off fee for listing and hosting the ad..

So say for instance some has some brake calipers for sale. They could be listed in the auction site and the club charges say a nominal fee per listing. I would have to have a look at the auction software but I reckon it's possible. This would be separate to the online shop.
