Me Clutch !

Me Clutch ! was created by Nigel Dale
Evening all :woohoo:

Well another small problem I now have is with me clutch !

Having just brought the car a few weeks ago, when driving it back from Swindon to Eastbourne I noticed that the clutch felt heavy, since then I have to now push the peddle into the carpet to be able to change.

Now ! in the owners manual it states it's designed to have "no peddle travel", so my thoughts are after having a good look over the car since getting it home, that it appears to have been in storage for some time ,as it has only covered 2180 miles since 2001 !!, i beleive that it must have been recommisioned this year as the Mot is from Feb 2012 and i have all Mot's up to 2001.

Well i'll stop babbling now ,the question is has anyone else come across this ?,

should I renew the master and slave, or change the fuild first?, i'm not good with hydrolic clutches, ( he says having owned many classic Citroens and still run a C5) !

It would just be interesting if any of you have expreienced this and have found a cure.

Hi Nigel,

Get a helper to check the amount of travel the arm is doing on the gearbox when you puch the pedal, it doesn't move much and because of this the bearing seize up in the gearbox casing. Try putting/soaking thin oil or WD40 around the bearing to free it up a bit. My exxie started slipping it's clutch at only 28000 miles, but it was only the arm not moving freely enough, unfortuately it's gearbox off to fully repair/release the bearing.

Changing the master is not a fun job, I wouldn't change either unless I had first established a leak or other fault.

You could slacken the slave to clutch arm linkage right off to see if you have travel more without the additional force required. If you do they could be an indication of a failing master.

Well a big thank you to all your expert advice on my clutch problem !

Taking your suggestions on board I have successfuly freed the arm as it was seazed ,and took the slave cylinder off and after replacing the slave pipe and cleaning the slave cylinder, flushed the system and replacing the fluid wit new, as the ols was a lovely brown colour, it is all working perfectly. No travel on the peddle at all.

Soo it was off to Beachey Head above Eastbourne ,with a steep hill climb to get there and no issues i took some pics of the car as it is to date.

Thanks once again one and all.

You could try renaming them so the file names don't use special characters (./! etc... resize to be approx 100kB and ensure they aren't bigger than 1024x768.
