Gearbox Oil was created by Tiff
We have organised a discount with Millers Oils, who make a gearbox oil specifically for older fiat cars, some of you may know how hard this is to get now. You can order online from their website, and use the discount code "X19" more info and a direct link to follow soon. They also sell a wide range of other lubricants, and I have used them in the past, and found them to be very good.

Nice one! - what a shame I bought some redline gearbox oil at great expense only the other day... definitely will bear this link in mind for the future though!

Hi Tiff. Well done. Is it possible to quickly post a list of the recommeded oils and amounts on this thread? I know the info is around but it might be easier to have all the info in one place. Standing by with my credit card! :D Also, what's the discount - free cuddly toy or cash off?

Here is the link

www.millersoils.net/1s_store.cgi

This is what you need:
GEAR OILS – GL3
Gear Oil 90 Data sheet 2216
Very low EP Mineral gear oil – GL3.

I have been assured by the chap at Millers that this oil was specifically designed for older Fiat cars, but I was a bit worried about the "very low EP"

Here is the mail I recieved back from him when I first approached Millers>

"hi tiff

thanks for your enquiry

we still make a GL3, very low EP gear oil specifically for older fiat group cars.

it is called Classic Gear Oil 90 - GL 3, product data sheet 2216. price is £8.25 per 1 litre, £29.95 for 5 litres

we can offer your members a discount of 10% via our web shop, with orders over £75 qualifying for free delivery"

You need 3 litres for an oil change.

As for engine oil, I usually use 15/40 semi synthetic, although 10W 40 is fine too, put simply-I wouldn't go any thinner than this, nor any thicker

You are right Graeme, I thought GL1 was the only stuff to use too, but the Millers guy assures me, you could email him too to double double check?Millers make all types of oils for classics,so I guess he would be sure before recommending. They do make a GL1 also, but he said go for the GL3?

This is a google translate from a German forum.
"The original oil for the 128/X1/9/127/124 gearbox, Tutela ZC 90 - Api GL3 among Fiat dealers on consistent demand available.
I am accordingly eingedeckt!
Hermann"
I think it suggests that Tutela ZC 90 the original oil is infact Api GL3.

Bought oil for my rebuild today. Supplied by PR Oil Supplies Ltd. Phoned them this morning to ask if they did Millers GL3. Reply was yes £5.31 per L + VAT. They also said as they were in Aberdeen often that they would drop it off at no cost. It arrived by lunchtime. There website is:

Well impressed.

I've just ordered some of this Millers classic gear oil, so......

What's the verdict now it's been in use for a while. Anyone noticed slicker changes, less noise or anything else.

How much did you order as you can get 3.5L into the five speed box. I have done about 700 miles since the rebuild. It would be unfair for me to comment as my box is put together with old parts from three boxes but under the circumstances my change is good and Margo now has no problem getting into 5th (she used to allways hit 3rd). This is not a wonder oil but just what FIAT originally specified. Having said that it seems to match the box very well.

Whilst on the subject, its time to stick fluids in my old beast - - Anyone recommend oil for my (uno turbo internals) gearbox? Would there be any
advantage in using this millers stuff, or does it require EP stuff?
Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Please folks DO NOT use Performance Oils to order your oil. I ordered on-line a week ago ( thursday), spoke to the guy when the stuff had not turned up by tuesday and it's still not here today. There is no one answering the phone now either.

What a bunch of monkeys. :x
